The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Seoul opens “The Art of Reading” (읽기의 기술) on November 27, 2026. The museum describes it as a look at how graphic design in Korea changed after Hangul horizontal typesetting entered printing and publishing in the 1970s. It runs until April 11, 2027.

What to expect
The show traces the 1970s and 1980s era of photo typesetting and offset printing, the shift to graphic tools and the web in the 1980s and 1990s, and today’s experiments that cross physical and non-physical media. The museum names the tape typography book series by 정병규 (Jung Byung-kyu) and the technical drawings by the duo 슬기와 민 (Sulki and Min) among the works from its own collection. I could not confirm a full works list.
Tips for international visitors
- The Wednesday and Saturday evening hours give you a free evening visit window, but check the exhibition page for any exception.
- The museum is near the palaces and Samcheong-dong, so it pairs well with a day around Gyeongbokgung.
- Check the museum’s notices for closures before a December visit.
